UPDATE: Comedy Central has informed us that no decision has yet been announced about the season two plans, if any, for “This Week at the Comedy Cellar,” saying that the language in the release was meant to reflect the current season airing now.
Comedy Central’s newest stand up series, “This Week at the Comedy Cellar” has aired four episodes with two to come in its six-ep first run. When we spoke with EP Ray Ellin last week, he said that he had no information yet on whether the hot-topic series would get a second season.
But then on Thursday Comedy Central announced two hot new series coming to the channel in 2019 (Robbie and Awkwafina), and teased the networks’ slate for 2019. In that look ahead, the network promised a stacked year ahead that will feature new and returning series. One of the series mentioned is This Week at the Comedy Cellar.
Does that mean New York City’s most topical comics will have another run at weekly ripped from the headlines subjects? All signs point to maybe. No official word from Comedy Central yet. We’ll keep you posted.
Looking ahead, Comedy Central has a stacked year to offer fans with a programming slate that will feature new and returning series including: the premieres of scripted half-hour series Awkwafina, The Other Two and South Side; sketch-comedy series Alternatino with Arturo Castro; stand-up series This Week at the Comedy Cellar and The New Negroes; new series from Jordan Klepper and Anthony Jeselnik; along with the final season of Broad City, the return of the critically acclaimed Corporate, and new seasons of The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, Tosh.0, Drunk History, The Jim Jefferies Show and much, much more.
