Monday night David Spade was a guest on the Conan show, and talked about working with his old friend, and comedy partner Chris Farley.  Spade said the infamously hilarious ‘fat guy in a little coat’ scene from Tommy Boy started off as just a bit Farley would do in their shared office at Saturday Night Live.

Spade told Conan that much of the material in Tommy Boy was just stuff that had been funny to them, that they hoped would be funny to other people as well.  One of those things was the Fat Guy in a Little Coat.  Spade said he would be trying to write in the office and Farley would be bored and try to get him to turn around.  Spade said if this is Fat Guy in a Little Coat again, its not funny anymore i don’t like it. Farley would of course, deny it, and get him to around by saying he was working on new stuff.  Of course when Spade turned around, Farley would be wearing Spade’s little Levi jacket.  “He ripped the coat every time,” Spade said.

“And that’s why we put it in the movie. We didn’t have much to do in there and he goes what if I just sing ‘fat guy in a little coat’ here and we were like ‘sure.’,” Spade said, “And it worked out, thank God.”
