David Pumpkins Just Keeps Coming; Animated Special Announced

Saturday Night Live is coming back this Saturday, but that’s not the only big SNL-themed news. Today NBC announced that the network will release an animated Halloween special based on David S. Pumpkins- the viral character played by Tom Hanks on Saturday Night Live last October. Haunted Elevator was a bizarre sketch, but it took off- fast and it seems people can’t get enough of David and his two skeletal friends played by Mikey Day and Bobby Moynihan

Tom Hanks will voice the role for the half-hour “David S. Pumpkins Halloween Special,” and both Day and Moynihan will have roles as well. The character may be the same, but the story goes beyond the Haunted Elevator ride shown in the SNL sketch. Pumpkins and his two skeletal buddies will parody old Christmas specials; they will set out to help some young kids find the true meaning of Halloween.

George Cheeks, president of business operations and late night programming for NBC said “it’s scary how quickly the original ‘SNL’ sketch caught on, and we’re thrilled that Tom Hanks is back to keep the fun going.”

The special is not for kids- and will jump into the SNL timeslot, presumably during a hiatus week- on Saturday October 28 at 11:30 p.m.
