David Letterman Talks David Letterman on the Late Late Show with Regis

Regis filled in again last night for the Late Late Show while we’re waiting for James Corden to get ready to take over. He had a massive list of great guests including. David Letterman, Charlie Rose, Donald Trump, Counting Crowes, and even Paul Shaffer.

With David Letterman winding down his show, it was bitter-sweet to listen to Dave and Paul reminisce and talk about their friendship and the show, and Dave really enjoyed putting Paul over multiple times for his years of accomplishment– calling him a magician and a musician.

Of course, Regis and Dave also talked about what is next for Dave. Regis insisted that Letterman tell people he is not “retiring” almost pleading with him not to call himself retired. But Dave doesn’t seem to see that word as such a scary thing. He told Regis that he can’t wait to finally leave because he is sick and tired of people asking him ‘what are you going to do next.’ Regis has an idea for Dave. He suggested what about Sunday Night with David Letterman? Dave didn’t seem nearly as interested as Regis– unless maybe he can do it from home, and said he is taking his cue from Paul Newman, who he has long admired. Paul once said he has never planned ahead, and isn’t planning to start now, and that sounds good enough for Dave.

In the strangest segment of the night (and funniest), Dave wanted to know where the hell is James Corden, and why isn’t he ready yet, and confused the hell out of Regis. Dave doesn’t approve of this whole fill in nonsense, referring to him, not by name but as that chubby guy from Great Britain “Why isn’t he ready?” “Where’s the tubby kid?” “Where is the guy?” Letterman asked When they said to you Regis, come to New York and do the show, you were here Monday right? “So where’s the tubby kid?”

They also talked about Dave’s new dog (he hates him) and the Super Bowl (Dave’s rooting for Seattle, and Regis is backing the Pats) and the awfulness of the two week news cycle.

Don’t go Dave!
