Comedy Winners At The SAG Awards

“Birdman” picked up another trophy on the its way to the Oscars. The dark comedy took home the SAD Awards Actor trophy for Outstanding Performance By a Cast In a Motion Picture. It beat out other ensemble casts from “The Grand Budapest Hotel”, “Boyhood”, “The Imitation Game” and “The Theory of Everything”. Even though it received the award of the night, that it was it for “Birdman”. Michael Keaton who went into the night a favorite at every ceremony this awards season, was beat out for Outstanding Performance By A Male Actor In A Leading Role by Eddie Redmayne who played Stephen Hawking in “The Theory of Everything”.  Edward Norton and Emma Stone who were both nominated for “Birdman” in their categories also walked away empty-handed.

As for TV comedy, The Screen Actors Guild members love “Orange Is The New Black”. It won Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series beating the casts of other comedy series including “The Big Bang Theory”, “Brooklyn Nine-Nine”,l “Modern Family” and “Veep”.

And Uzo Aduba from OITNB took home the award Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series. She won over other nominees, Julie Bowen for “Modern Family”, Edie Falco for “Nurse Jackie”, Julia Louis-Dreyfus for “Veep” and Amy Poehler for “Parks and Recreation”.

An emotional Uzo Aduba wins the SAG Award for “Orange is the New Black”.

The tough competition for Outstanding Performance By A Male Actor In A Comedy Series saw William H. Macy win for “Shameless”. The other nominees were Louis C.K. for “Louie”, Ty Burrell for “Modern Family”, Jim Parsons “The Big Bang Theory” and Eric Stonestreet “Modern Family”.

This is the one time William H. Macy didn’t prepare a speech.

The SAG Awards gets us halfway through movie awards season. Just the DGA Awards, BAFTAs, Independent Spirit Awards, Razzies and the Oscars to go.
