Comedy Central Has A Short List Of Possible Jon Stewart Replacements

According to Viacom Entertainment Group president Doug Herzog, Comedy Central has a short list of names to choose from to replace Jon Stewart as host of the Daily Show. Herzog wouldn’t elaborate on the people that make up this “short list” but he did give a name that’s not on it. He was asked about John Oliver returning to the Daily Show from HBO’s “Last Week Tonight” and Herzog simply said, “John Oliver’s got a job”.
There were other questions according to ABC News, that Herzog either doesn’t have the answers for yet or isn’t giving right now. There’s still no time frame for when Jon Stewart will be leaving the Daily Show and if he is leaving altogether or staying on as an executive producer with a say in who replaces him. Herzog answered that by saying, “It’s not out of the question”.
Jon Stewart’s announcement that he was stepping down as the host of the Daily Show seemed abrupt when he told his studio and television audience on Tuesday evening. Doug Herzog addressed that. He said, “I think Jon wanted to get this off his chest and put it out there. He’s been carrying this for a little while, and now we’ll have to discuss” the next steps, Herzog said. “He’ll take a deep breath, as will we, and figure out what’s best for Jon Stewart and best for ‘The Daily Show,’ in that order.”
