A sports injury left Drew Lynch with a stuttering problem. A grounder took a bad hop, hit him in the throat and damaged his vocal chords. He’s used comedy to work through his frustrations. Before his injury, in his own words, he was a jerk. He’s a new person now, and feels responsibility to show people that you can get through anything.

Last night Drew made everyone laugh, and cry, on America’s Got Talent when he introduced himself and proudly told Howard Stern that his girlfriend took on three jobs so that he could pursue comedy. He’s a sweetheart, and he’s really funny.

Drew won over the judges long before he started performing and then won them over again during his act, causing Howie Mandel to yell out brilliant within the first minute. Spoiler alert, standing ovation, and a golden buzzer for Drew.

Stern said, “It is such a hard thing to get on a stage when you’ve got everything going for you and everything’s clear. But to go up there with your situation and to pull this off and to get the crowd with you is almost impossible. So I, along with the audience, applaud you for that.

Howie Mandel told Drew, “I know you’re here to make people laugh but I can’t tell you how emotional you make me because comedy usually comes from a dark place. A lot of comedians are depressed. I have personally in my life have used laughter to try to gain some happiness. What you did is you looked for the light at the end of the darkness and that light is your comedy. And I’m telling you I haven’t been moved by an act like this up until this moment. And because of you, and because of this moment, I want to do something very special. Something I haven’t had a chance to do.” He also told

Cue that golden buzzer. If you don’t know what that means, Drew Lynch is going straight through to the live shows at Radio City Music Hall.

Stick with it to the end if you like schmalzty family moments. It’s a good one.
