Comedian Jimmy Dore Says “There Is No Liberal in America”

Carl Kozlowski is the founder of www.radiotitans.com, and the co-host of its podcast, “The Campaign with Ernie Powell.” Recently political comedian Jimmy Dore spoke with Ernie Powell and Carl and tore into some hot topics covering “The Interview”, his anger at the media, Wall Street Bailouts and more. Excerpts from that conversation appear below.
Jimmy Dore gets fired up about the world’s problems, and lets his opinions fly like a muscle car running on all cylinders. He was in rare form on the latest episode of the Radio Titans podcast “The Campaign with Ernie Powell,” trying to make darkly comic sense of the insanity surrounding us all. In a wide-ranging discussion with Powell and “Campaign” cohost Carl Kozlowski, Dore dug in on the vital role of satire in democracy, how there’s no real difference between Republicans and Democrats, and how six companies essentially own all the media in the US.
Dore –who has had two solo hourlong Comedy Central specials and hosts his own nationally syndicated “The Jimmy Dore Show” out of KPFK –FM in Los Angeles, is a member of the popular political show The Young Turks, and debuted as an author this year with the bestseller “Your Country’s Just Not That Into You.”
“Because the media has been co-opted by the criminals it’s supposed to be investigating, it’s left to the comedians who use satire as the only ones in mainstream culture to tell the truth,” said Dore. “Jon Stewart is not a good news man, he just shows how bad the others are doing. People make the mistake that MSNBC is liberal. There is no left in America, there is no liberal. MS stands for Microsoft, which is a giant corporation that wants to crush public education and privatize it, and NBC which is owned by General Electric, which is a huge defense contractor in the Iraq War. We get our antiwar message from a defense contractor.”
Dore noted that George Carlin “woke me up to the craziness of religion and Bill Hicks woke me up to everything else,” amid a spirited discussion of the importance of satire with host Ernie Powell.
Another aspect of media that vexed Dore was Sony Pictures decision to cave in to terrorist threats and allow movie theaters to pull out of showing the notorious political comedy ‘The Interview.” Stating that America changed its values “Immediately after an act of terror” on 9/11 through violent treatment of suspected terrorists and citizens submitting to insane airport searches, he said that we are currently making national decisions based on fear.
“We have to double down against terrorism,” said Dore. “When do we allow them to dictate how we live? We’ve been bombing terrorists for the last 14 years in the middle east. All of a sudden they threaten to bomb a cinema and we’re gonna stop living our life? Look at Israel. They have to deal with this stuff all the time.. They don’t let it affect them because they know once you do, they’ve won!”
The entire episode can be heard at radiotitans.com, by clicking on the most recent episode, as well as on iTunes and Stitcher. Dore is skilled at comic exasperation, so you’ll want to actually hear him rant rather than just reading his incendiary thoughts.
