CNN Airing Special Report On Cosby Rape Allegations. Is Apatow’s Pressure Paying Off?

Tuesday night, the CNN news network will air “No Laughing Matter: Inside The Cosby Allegations”. The special looks at Cosby and how he went from comedy superstar and America’s favorite TV dad to an accused rapist. Several of the women who have gone public with the allegations will be part of the report to tell their side of the story and what they claim Cosby did to them. In today’s news culture, it’s not uncommon for even a big story like the Cosby allegations to lose traction and fall to the wayside when new scandals come to light, but it doesn’t look like the stories surrounding the Cosby allegations are going away any time soon.
New allegations, new complainants seem to keep coming to light, refreshing the news interest in pursuing the story. And then there’s Apatow. Writer, director and producer Judd Apatow has made it somewhat of a crusade to remind America about the accusations, and keep the story fresh, and it may be paying off. Apatow has repeatedly taken to social media to increase pressure on audiences, theaters, and networks to disassociate with Cosby, ever since allegations against him picked up speed this past fall, fighting with the creator of Blackish on social media, even urging that Cosby belongs in jail, and calling out those who continue to support Cosby.
Most recently Apatow reacted to Eddie Murphy’s refusal to portray Cosby on the SNL 40th Anniversary Special. Some had speculated that it was admiral for Murphy not to throw barbs at Cosby. Apatow kept the pressure on reminding tweeters like Piers Morgan that of the reason that Cosby is in trouble with the media.
.@piersmorgan @normmacdonald what?! He is a rapist. That is not loyalty. It is choosing to support a rich rapist over thirty victims.

.@nickel_lem it is important that when our friends rape people we support them and do not mock then for raping people. That would be wrong.

By the way– in case you forgot– Cosby likes to knock people unconscious and then fuck them. Then he intimidates them into silence.

.@tceraulo Cosby hated when Eddie Murphy cursed but is totally cool with sex with the unconscious.

Apatow’s high profile and very visible refusal to let these allegations to fade away with arrival of a new news cycle may be part of the reason why the Cosby story continues to gain traction with more and more media attention being paid to it. Tonight’s special, “No Laughing Matter: Inside The Cosby Allegations” airs at 9pm et on CNN.
