Chris Rock Jumps Into Horror Game

Comedy is going horror these days, and yet another great comic is taking the dive into the hot genre.

Chris Rock is going to collaborate with Lionsgate to produce a reboot of the Saw franchise. According to reports, Rock had some fabby ideas about how to reignite the hit horror series and Lionsgate said yes! Lionsgate made the announce this morning with a release date already in place: Oct. 23, 2020.

Rock says he’s been a fan of ‘Saw’ since the first film in 2004 and is excited about the opportunity to “take this to a really intense and twisted new place.”

Lionsgate Picture Group chairman Joe Drake said in the announcement “When Chris Rock came to us and described in chilling detail his fantastic vision that reimagines and spins off the world of the notorious Jigsaw Killer, we were all-in.” He added, that Rock’s vision plans to be reverential to the “legacy of the material while reinvigorating the brand with his wit, creative vision and passion for this classic horror franchise.”

The studio is hyped for the reboot and hyping it up to the press promising an “event film” that will reinvigorate the series.

Original series producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules will produce. Darren Lynn Bousman will direct (Saw II, III, IV). Peter Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg wrote the screenplay based on Rock’s story concept.
