Did Charlie Rose make a mistake on live TV or does he know something we don’t know?
On this Thursday’s edition of CBS This Morning, Charlie Rose was interviewing John Oliver about his Emmy win this week.
Oliver talked about his acceptance speech, his plans for upcoming episodes, Snowden and of course, the election. Things got odd though, when the topic turned to the late night show landscape.
Rose asked Oliver “do you have some sadness over what’s happened at Comedy Central?” Oliver, looking confused, asked Rose what he was referring to. “In terms of the two people who succeeded both John and Stephen…who no longer will be there,” Rose said, obviously referring in part to Comedy Central’s decision not to renew Larry Wilmore’s contract as host of The Nightly Show. Oliver replied, still confused, “The… two people? Larry Wilmore… Who else is going?” Rose replied, “Am I misunderstanding that I thought Trevor was going?”
Oliver was momentarily stunned, but quickly regained his composure firing off a funny line, “I think Trevor…unless you are firing him live on TV right now..which is an amazing scoop. Please don’t fire me in real time as well.” No, Trevor’s still going, Larry’s gone.”
You can catch Noah four days a week on The Daily Show, or if you’re in Toronto you can catch him this weekend, performing at the JFL42 Fest along with Daily Show Correspondent Ronny Chieng.
Watch the exchange at 5:50.
