Carlin Biopic: We’re All Ready for That

Stand-up comedy legend and genius George Carlin is the most revered, respected and beloved comedian in the history of stand up. So we’re pretty excited to hear that a biopic is in the works. The Jackal Group has acquired the rights, and the plan is to produce the film with Carlin’s former manager Jerry Hamza, who Executive Produced most of Carlin’s specials, and was his close friend throughout most of Carlin’s career. Carlin’s agent, Bruce Kaufman is also on the project.

Stan Chervin is on board to write. The Oscar and Golden Globe nominated screenwriter penned Moneyball.

Hamza said, “I’m very excited to be involved with a film based on George’s life. It was wasn’t until after George died, I realized he was a hero. As a performer, George would never ‘sell out,’ and never comprise his beliefs – I learned so much from him. I think the public will be very happy to learn about George’s life. He was truly the top of the ladder in his field.”

The Jackal Group’s Berman and Earley said, “We are honored to tell the story of one of the most important and influential comedians of all time, and to do so alongside those who knew him best. In addition to shaping comedy and culture for decades, and entertaining generations of audiences, Carlin’s battle to protect free speech continues to impact our daily lives and is as relevant as ever.”

No word yet on whether Kelly Carlin, George’s daughter is involved in the project.
