Cap City Comedy Club ReOpening in Austin

We were crushed earlier this year to share the news that one of our favorite comedy clubs in the country was closing, permanently. Cap City Comedy Club announced in September that the hardships of the coronavirus shut down were just too overwhelming, and the club was closing its doors.
Then on Thursday, the news came that the world-famous club will reopen in the fall, in a new location just three miles away from the original space. And there are some new partners on board. The owners of the well-established Helium Comedy Club will be joining some of the original team to create a club that’s stronger and funnier than ever. After the club closed, Helium brothers Brad and Marc Grossman saw the opportunity to revive the club in a new location.
Cap City will continue their tradition of booking top national acts, Austin-based comedians, and cutting-edge up and comers.
“We could not be more thrilled that Cap City will be back as the center of the Austin comedy scene,” stated Colleen McGarr one of the original owners of the club. “We have known and worked with Marc for years and could not be happier to begin this new chapter”
The exact location of the new space has not been disclosed, but we do konw it will be at the Domain in North Austin, and will offer a wide variety of talent. A full food-and-drink menu will be available throughout the club and there will be two showrooms. The main showroom will be dedicated to national acts such as Dave Attell, Aries Spears, Margaret Cho, Big Jay Oakerson, Rachel Feinstein, Dan Soder, Doug Benson, etc. The more intimate showroom’s focus will be on Austin’s local comedy community. Austin is the home of great talent such as Andrew Murphy (current title holder of The Funniest Person in Austin), Chris Tellez, Avery Moore, Matt Bearden, Lisa Friedlich, Mac Blake, Amber Bixby, Hunter Duncan, Jasmine Ellis, Danny Goodwin, Christina Parrish, Ralph Hardesty, Justin Hicks, and more. Expect special events like “The Sideshow” podcast with Dudley, Bob and Matt, as well as pop-up headliner shows. Cap City Comedy will continue to be a sponsor of Austin’s premiere comedy event the Moontower Comedy Festival.
“Cap City is one of the best comedy clubs in the country with an amazing reputation. We’re fortunate to have had a relationship with them for a long time,” stated Marc Grossman. “When Brad and I heard the club was closing and how upset the community was, we knew that we wanted to change that. I’m just glad that the opportunity presented itself.”
The first show is set to start in October of 2021. Updates can be found at http://www.capcitycomedy.com.
