Cameron Crowe’s Roadies is a Go at Showtime

Showtime has picked up Cameron Crowe’s Roadies, giving the series an initial 10 episode run. Crowe will write, direct and executive produce the music filled hour long comedy that follows the life of a group of rock band roadies.
Roadies is described as “an insider’s look at the reckless, romantic, funny and often poignant lives of a committed group of “roadies” who live for music and the de facto family they’ve formed along the way.” The band they follow, The Staton-House Band is an arena level group on tour across the US throughout the series.
Luke Wilson stars as tour manager with Carla Gugino taking on the role of production manager. It’s their tumultuous relationship that will inform the primary storyline. Mad Men’s Christina Hendricks had initially been cast to play the production manager, but the role had been revamped and recast over the summer. Ron White, Imogene Poots, Peter Cambor, and Colson Baker also star. Luis Guzman will guest star as Gooch, the band’s tour bus driver, and SNL’s Finesse Mitchell will play Harvey the tour accountant who enjoys some off the books side businesses. Branscombe Richmond will also guest star.
Pearl Jam manager Kelly Curtis is on board to serve as music supervisor to keep things authentic. Winnie HOlzman and JJ Abrams will also executive produce.
“I’ve long wanted to work with J.J. and Winnie, and coming together to tell these stories has been beyond a blast,” said Crowe. “SHOWTIME has a great track record with music-based projects, and they’ve been wonderful partners. The actors are all so passionate about music too, and the whole show has the feeling of stories and music shared between friends. We can’t wait to bring it all to life in 2016.”
The pilot was shot in Vancouver back in January. The series will begin production in 2016 and premiere later in the year.
