Brian Volk-Weiss Takes Comedy Dynamics ‘Stand Alone’

For ten years, Comedy Dynamics has served as the pre-eminent independent producer of comedy albums and specials in North America, with Brian Volk-Weiss at the helm. Since 2007, Comedy Dynamics has functioned as an arm of New Wave Entertainment, but on Tuesday, New Wave announced that Comedy Dynamics will spin off into its own company– The Nacelle Company, LLC. Volk-Weiss will continue to oversee all operations of the newly formed company as CEO.

The move comes as Comedy Dynamics has been expanding its role in comedy from producing albums and specials to creating original scripted series, talk shows, and documentaries. The company will be involved in all stages of comedy creation, including pre and post-production, management, development and distribution. Some of the projects Comedy Dynamics has overseen include Join or Die with Craig Ferguson for the History Channel, There’s… Johnny with Seeso, a stand-up showcase series, Coming to the Stage for Hulu, and the upcoming Kevin Hart Presents: The Black Man’s Guide to History.

Formed in 2007, Comedy Dynamics was created originally as an audio-only label for stand up releases, but soon grew to include full audio and video specials. Since then, it has become the largest independent stand-up comedy production and distribution company. Comedy Dynamics has worked with a wide-range of established and emerging comedic talent including Kevin Hart, Louis C.K., Aziz Ansari, Jim Gaffigan, Katt Williams and many more. Comedy Dynamics is available on most streaming platforms including: Hulu, Roku, iOS, Amazon and Android. Comedy Dynamics now has one of the biggest privately-owned stand-up libraries, with new productions filmed with both virtual reality technology as well as in 4k.

Brian Volk-Weiss who we’ve featured here on The Interrobang in a series of interviews about the state of comedy in 2016, is one of the most influential comedy publishers and distributors in the country.  Prior to joining New Wave and forming Comedy Dynamics, Brian Volk-Weiss was a manager, handling careers of major comedy stars.

Paul Apel, CEO of New Wave, said, “Brian has done an outstanding job growing Comedy Dynamics into a market leader and as it continues to grow and expand, we needed to organize the business to address those needs.”
