Bill Maher vs Elton John

Bill Maher has no love for the far conservative right, but on Friday night’s “Real Time” on HBO, it was the far left liberals that he had real problems with during his closing monologue. Maher closed his “New Rules” segment taking on the political correctness that he feels goes too far with liberals. So far, that it threatens free speech and causes false outrage.

One of Maher’s issues was Elton John’s problem with designers Dolce and Gabbana who despite being gay themselves said they don’t support gay marriage or in vitro fertilization creating what they called “synthetic babies”. The comments offended John and a boycott of D&G products was called for. Maher said, “Really, you can’t sell handbags now if you only agree with Elton John almost all the time?”

Maher continued with other examples of liberals being angry with other liberals for not all being of the exact same mind set. He brought up a college professor who had to apologize for a sympathetic comment about the Ferguson, Missouri protesters because it wasn’t considered sympathetic enough to the demonstrators. He talked about transgender women who protested a production of “The Vagina Monologues” at Mount Holyoke College because it wasn’t inclusive enough. And Maher had a special comment for the liberal site Media Matters who criticized the Economist for its magazine cover about a story discussing Latinos in America which depicted the American flag being made up of jalapeno peppers. That comment was, “Hey, Media Matters, can I say one thing to you? Shut the fick up.”

Bill Maher summed up his comments by saying, “For folks who take such pride in their love of diversity, liberals increasingly seem to tolerate none in their own ranks”

“Real Time with Bill Maher” is seen Fridays at 10pm et on HBO.
