Bill Hader Scores “Giant” Role In Steven Spielberg’s “The BFG”

Bill Hader is a giant talent and Steven Spielberg recognizes it. The former SNL cast member and “The Skeleton Twins” star has been cast as one of the giants in Spielberg’s live action adaption of the Roald Dahl classic 1982 book, “The BFG”. According to Deadline, it’s not clear which giant Bill Hader will be playing yet. The role of “The BFG” (The Big Fun Giant) is going to be played by Mark Rylance. While the part of Sophie the little orphan girl from the storybook who goes on adventure with “BFG” and the Queen of England to stop the attacks of the mean giants, will be played by Ruby Barnhill. Other possible names rumored to coming on board the project include Marilyn Norry and Martin Freeman.

When Steven Spielberg was first announced as the director, he released a statement on RoaldDahl.com saying, “The BFG has enchanted families and their children for more than three decades. We are honoured that the Roald Dahl estate has entrusted us with this classic story”.

A live action adaption of the book has been in works for awhile starting in 1991. In, 1998, the project was revisited with plans for Robin Williams to star in the movie. Steven Spielberg will start shooting this year and “The BFG” is scheduled for a July 1st, 2016 release.

Bill Hader will be seen next co-starring in “Trainwreck” written by and starring Amy Schumer and directed by Judd Apatow.
