Bill Burr: Let’s Get Real. Jokes Don’t Take People’s Homes

In an interview with ConnectSavannah.com Bill Burr said that people are way too worried about jokes comedians make, when they should be worried about real problems.  The topic of political correctness is one Burr addresses often, and it came up again in the interview.

When Burr was asked about how comedy has changed over the generations, he took exception to the suggestion that younger people don’t laugh at the same subject matter because they grew up with political correctness. He said, “I disagree. They’re hearing the same thing comics have been joking about since the beginning of time, and nothing’s ever happened. There’s been no political movement to come out of comedy, nothing ever changed socially. It’s just jokes. I actually almost don’t want to answer this question, to put more gas on the horseshit fire.” What really bothers Burr, is that while comedians face “calculated outrage” over their jokes, those same people who are pissed give a pass to the real guys causing real problems.

But let’s get real. Let’s look at what’s been going on in the meantime: A small group of people have turned our whole food supply into poison. Everyday I meet somebody who’s upside down on their house, they owe more on the house than it will ever be worth. How about insurance companies who take your money for years and then you make one claim and they deny it, or drop you if you have cancer or something? No one goes after them. No one goes after assholes like that. No, they want to go after standup comedians. These banks make enough money putting people out of their homes to put politicians in office! No comedian ever told a joke that made somebody lose their fucking house.

This coming weekend, Bill Burr will be at the Johnny Mercer Theatre in Savannah, Georgia.  This Fall, Bill Burr’s new animated series, “F Is For Family” will premiere on Netflix, co-starring Laura Dern, Haley Reinhart and Justin Long.
