In a recent interview with Deadline, Aziz Ansari discussed his upcoming Netflix series. In April, Netflix announced that they had ordered ten half-hour episodes of a comedy starring Aziz, which he developed with Parks & Recreation co-creator Mike Schur and former Parks & Recreation writer Alan Yang.

The plot is not known and the series remains untitled, but Aziz discussed some details, including the fact that he cast his real father to play his dad on the show. Shoukath Ansari, a gastroenterologist in real life, will now get the chance to showcase his acting chops.

Aziz told Deadline: “There’s an episode about my parents and it’s a lot of me and my dad. And my real dad plays my dad. He’s really good… That’s the thing about this show—it’s deeply personal. I treated it like the way I would treat stand-up. Like, what are things that I really want to talk about and figure out?”

Aziz added that the show will differ from Parks and not follow the mockumentary model.

H. Jon Benjamin, Eric Wareheim, Lena Waithe, Noël Wells, and Kelvin Yu will join Aziz and Shoukath in the cast.
