Apu is Staying!? Going!? Al Jean Dismisses Earlier Report of the Character Disappearing
Simpsons showrunner Al Jean denies statements made by a producer about future Apu, but doesn’t address the what’s happening to the character.
Is Apu staying on the Simpsons? Quietly sulking off as was reported last week by producer Adi Shankar? Changing dialects? Getting a new job? We honestly have no idea. But last we picked up a story that was circulating that Apu was getting cut from the Simpsons lineup. The report said the character would leave quietly, without being written out of the storyline. He would simply no longer appear on the show. The report came from producer Adi Shankar, who claimed to have knowledge of the situation, and was fanned by the fact that when asked for official comment on the story, a spokesperson responded to Indiewire by only saying,”Apu appeared in the 10/14/18 episode ‘My Way or the Highway to Heaven.’” The appearance was in a group shot with no dialogue.
Al Jean responded saying Adi Shankar does not speak for the show and is not a producer for The Simpsons. He did not say whether the report was true or false.
