AP Photographer Dies Of Heart Attack After Peach Bowl

Dave Martin, known as “Mullet” by his friends, died New Years Day at the age of 59. Martin collapsed on the Georgia Dome field immediately after Texas A&M’s win over Duke, where CPR was administered before being rushed to a nearby hospital. Martin’s final image was Kevin Sumlin receiving a “Gatorade bath” from his players.
While Martin did cover sports like the Super Bowl and Olympics, he also covered more significant world events. Being from Montgomery, he was one of the first on the scene of the devastating 2011 Alabama tornadoes. He recorded the damage from the BP Gulf Oil Spill, the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, and conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. He is survived by a wife and two children.
