Amy Schumer Says No to the NFL
Amy Schumer is one of the most covered celebrities on the planet. The media just loves her reporting not only on everything she does (a simple Central Park photo bomb made the rounds of almost every major publication this week), but also everything she doesn’t do.
This week, Schumer made news for deciding not to do a Super Bowl Ad. She’s taking on the NFL, the Super Bowl and indirectly the President with her decision to back Colin Kaepernick. The world famous comedian wrote on her Instagram on Friday that she will not be appearing in any Super Bowl ads this year.
Her Instagram post detailed her reason for the stance. Schumer is siding with Colin Kaepernick by taking a knee in her own way. Amy says she’s bothered that more white players aren’t kneeling along with Kaepernick, going so far as to call those not kneeling, complicit in the widespread racism in our country.
“Once you witness the truly deep inequality and endless racism people of color face in our country, not to mention the police brutality and murders,” she said, “Why not kneel next to your brothers? Otherwise how are you not complicit?” She asked that more players stand up (or kneel down) for their brothers and sisters of color.
“I know it must sound like a privilege ass sacrifice,” she wrote, “but it’s all i got.”
Schumer appeared in Super Bowl ads in 2016 and 2017.
