Amy Schumer on Unmasked

Amy Schumer is on the verge of being one of the hottest comics in America today.  Her first one-hour stand up special, “Mostly Sex Stuff” was one of the highest rated on Comedy Central this year, and she has been featured on several Comedy Central roasts.  She also gave a great performance earlier this year in the Indie film, “Price Check”.  She is the creator, star and writer of “Inside Amy”, her television show which premieres next week (April 30th) on Comedy Central. This week, Amy sat down with Ron Bennington to tape a one hour episode of “Unmasked” in front of a live studio audience at the SiriusXM studios in New York City.

Amy talked to Bennington about being both “excited and terrified” about her  new show which she says is all about her .  “It’s a really personal show and just everything that I think is funny and my sensibilities and…it’s my stand up and just intimate, hard stuff.”   Schumer gave the “Unmasked” audience a preview of what you’ll see on “Inside Amy” including what women really see when they’re having sex, Amy gratuitously making out with Amber Tamblyn, and interviews with regular people, like a really well endowed guy (she asks “can you run?”), a ballerina (“are you just hungry?) and a jesus counselor.

She also talks about where she’s happy (loves New York, hates LA), the unhealthiness of social networking (never get into a debate with a 14 year old usher in Indianapolis), what it’s like to be a female comic (f*ckability matters, scar tissue helps), and why comedy is a lot like boxing.  Bad things happen– like people hecking you — and it’s okay. It can harden you, she says, but it also takes away your fear.

“I box.  I work with a boxing trainer and a lot of comedians do.  I think it’s the same kind of thing.  You go in, and you might get hit, and you feel it hurts.  It’s painful.  But then after you’re just strong and the fear leaves you.  I think it’s the same kind of thing.  I feel fearless on stage.”

Unmasked with Amy Schumer will premier Friday April 26th at 2pm on The Ron and Fez Show on SiriusXM satellite radio and will re-air  on SiriusXM 99 (Rawdog) on Saturday April 27th at 8pm ET and Sunday April 28th at 3pm and 9pm.   It will also re-air  on Sirius 206 and XM 105 (Opie and Anthony Channel) on  Sunday the 28th at 10 am ET & midnight ET.
