Amy Schumer Addresses Plus Size Controversy on Tonight Show
Comedy royalty, Amy Schumer had a big appearance on The Tonight Show last night and despite the fact that she said she gained a little weight since Trainwreck, she looked great in a black and red dress and bright red high heels. She excited the audience with more than a few basic-instinct style poses but did not show off the goods.
In mid-pose, Schumer addressed her Glamour Magazine plus sized controversy. Amy made headlines earlier this month when she slammed Glamour magazine for including her on the cover of a special plus-sized women issue. Schumer took offense at being labeled plus sized, although the phrase was never used in reference to her. The magazine did however include her on a list of “inspiring women.”
On Tuesday night’s show, she said to Fallon, “I love Glamour Magazine. They’ve been so nice to me, they’ve done so many great things for women. But what I learned is that people really don’t like being classified by plus size. We don’t need these labels. We don’t need em.”
Schumer was with her boyfriend, who stayed backstage, and she told the audience they are in love. She said it was crazy seeing her new romance go viral in the media, and said she had to explain things to her boyfriend’s family, who were shocked by all of the media attention. Amy made sure to explain to his mother how to handle the press when they called, suggesting she just say “no comment.” Ten minutes later Amy got a google alert that Time Magazine quoted her boyfriend’s mom as saying “I’ve never heard of her before in my life.” So mission accomplished.
