2nd Annual unite4:humanity Presented By ALCATEL ONETOUCH - Show

Amy Poehler took time to remember her friend Harris Wittels at the unite4humanity event where she was being honored on Thursday night. Harris was a co-executive producer, writer and occasional actor on Amy’s show “Parks and Recreation”. According to L.A. police, Harris Wittels was found dead from an apparent overdose.

Amy received the Unity Award for her work with charities dedicated to helping orphans and under-privileged children around the world. According to Variety, when Amy accepted the award, she said, “Today, I lost a friend. I lost a dear, young friend in my life who was struggling with addiction.”

She added, “I’m sharing it with you because life and death live so close together, and we walk that fine line everyday. When things happen in our lives, we turn to the people that we love…and we lean on people, in a hope that we will ease our pain.”

Amy explained why she wasn’t being funny while accepting the honor. “So, I don’t really feel like telling any jokes. I’m kind of sad, and it’s really great to be here tonight and listen to all of you, and listen to the great work that you do and be reminded why we live in this bizarre planet called ‘Hollywood’, It’s very strange.”
