U.S. Swim Team Disqualified For .01 Second Mistake
The U.S. team was swimming the 4×100 relay in the finals, and thought they had won, until it was determined that one swimmer began his leg .04 second before the previous swimmer had touched the wall. There is a .03 second period of leeway, and the .01 second cost the U.S. the FINA Swimming World Championships in Barcelona. Ryan Lochte was seen hunched over a calculator long after everyone else had gone home.
