If You’re Spending the Fourth Indoors

Independence Day will be celebrated across the country with cookouts, picnics and fireworks shows. But  if you don’t want to leave your home to battle crowds, traffic or shitty weather, you can still get in on the party without leaving your couch.

  • Music Independence DayMTV, VH1, CMT Starting at 6am Eastern.  MTV, CMT and VH1 are launching the first-ever “Music Independence Day,” with an all-day on-air showcase for artists across all three networks. The special will run from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on MTV, VH1 and CMT, with a party playlist for fans of pop, country, hip hop, indie and EDM.
  • The Revolutionary War The Military Channel – All Day.  The Military is running a marathon of “The Revolutionary War” series which it started at 6pm on July 3rd. The marathon continues all Independence Day and ends at 6am Eastern on Friday.
  • ESPN SportsCentury: Pat TillmanESPN Classic 9am Eastern with a replay at 2pm Eastern.  It’s the ESPN biography series look at Arizona Cardinal and American hero Pat Tillman who was killed serving in Afghanistan in 2004.
  • The Price Is Right 4th of July SpecialCBS 11am Eastern.  Drew Carey hosts America’s favorite pricing game show in a 4th of July special where all the contestants are members of the U.S. Armed Forces. Military personnel will be playing for trips to Washington DC, Hawaii and of course “A Brand New Car!”
  • The Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest ESPN 2 Noon Eastern and ESPN 1pm Eastern.  Live from Coney Island in Brooklyn, New York, it’s the granddaddy of all competitive eating contests. The Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest is headlined by returning champion Joey “Jaws” Chestnut. Joey is going for his 7th straight title. Watch to see if he can break his previous Nathan’s record of 68 hot dogs in 10 minutes. Coverage begins at noon on ESPN 2 and switches to ESPN at 1pm Eastern.
  • John AdamsHBO 2 Noon Eastern.  Beginning at noon, HBO 2 will be airing the award winning miniseries “John Adams” starring Paul Giamatti as our 2nd President. The 7 part series can be seen in its entirety and traces the first 50 years of America as an independent country.
  • National Treasure and National Treasure: Book of SecretsABC Family Noon Eastern.  Starting at noon and running until 11pm Eastern, ABC Family will be airing “National Treasure” and “National Treasure: Book of Secrets” back to back and over again. It’s Nicholas Cage searching for treasure through American history, then in the sequel, his character Benjamin Gates must prove an ancestor’s innocence in the Lincoln assassination.
  • The Army – Navy ExpressCBS Sports Starting at Noon.  It’s a 6 hour marathon of the Army – Navy game highlights starting at noon on CBS Sports.
  • Yankee Doodle DandyTCM 5:30pm Eastern.  James Cagney stars in his Oscar winning role as George M. Cohan in this musical portrait of the great American composer, singer and dancer.
  • A Capitol FourthPBS 8pm Eastern.  It’s a celebration of America from Washington DC. Performers include Neil Diamond doing his new single “Freedom Song”, Barry Manilow, Darren Criss from “Glee” and John Williams conducting the National Symphony Orchestra with music from the film “Lincoln”.
  • The Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks SpectacularNBC 8pm Eastern.  The amazing New York City fireworks display over the Hudson River will be broadcast by NBC and hosted by Nick Cannon. Musical guests include Mariah Carey, Taylor Swift, Tim McGraw, Selena Gomez, Pitbull and the legendary Cher. The nation’s largest fireworks display will be scored by Usher.
  • The Philly 4th of July JamVH1 and Palladia – 8pm Eastern.  Comedian Kevin Hart hosts the evening from Philadelphia that features performances from The Roots, John Mayer, Ne-Yo, Demi Levato and J. Cole.
  • The Music ManTCM 8pm Eastern.  It’s the classic American musical starring Robert Preston, Shirley Jones and Buddy Hackett.
  • Independence Day A&E 8pm Eastern.  Bill Pullman is the President that leads the world against an alien invasion on the 4th of July. “And should we win the day, the Fourth of July will no longer be known as an American holiday, but as the day the world declared in one voice: ‘We will not go quietly into the night!’ We will not vanish without a fight! We’re going to live on! We’re going to survive! Today we celebrate our Independence Day!”
  • Chicago’s Summer Blast WGN America 10:30 pm Eastern.  Broadcast live, it’s the Windy City’s 32 annual fireworks show from Navy Pier.
