10 Spectators Injured At Isle Of Man TT

spectarorsAt the start of Friday’s Senior TT, (read our story on the Isle of Man TT if you’re not familiar with the race) the premiere race of the week-long motorcycle event, Jonathan Howarth lost control of his Kawasaki at the Bray Hill corner. The bike slid across the road, and debris flew into a section of spectators, as described by Manx Radio’s David Harrison: “The wheel and the petrol tank of the bike flew straight across the road – it actually came over my head, only yards away from us.”

The Auto-Cycle Union, the organizers of the TT, released a statement: “The 10 spectators and the rider were taken to hospital with injuries ranging from slight to serious but not life threatening. Four of the spectators have been discharged, five of the injured have been kept in hospital and one remains under observation in the emergency department.”

The Senior TT was completely restarted almost four hours later, with John McGuinness taking his 6th Senior TT, 20th Overall.
