Independent Spirit Awards Being Announced: SPOILER ALERT

For some reason you can’t watch the Independent Spirit Awards till 10pm tonight, but thankfully IndieWire.com and a few other sites know that people do care about the awards and don’t want to wait 6 hours to hear the winners.  Go to indiewire.com to read the winners being updated as they come in and then watch the fun for yourself tonight at 10pm on IFC.  The awards ceremony beings at 1:30pm PST which means you should be starting to see some results some time around 4:30pm in the east. We’ll post them all here later today.

  • Bernie.  Richard Linklater directed this black comedy starring Jack Black, Shirley MacLaine and Matthew McConaughey about an 81 year old millionairess murdered by her younger companion.
  • Keep the Lights On.  Keep the Lights On,  chronicles an emotionally and sexually charged journey of two men in New York City through love, friendship, and addiction.  Directed by Ira Sachs
  • Moonrise Kingdom.  Wes Anderson’s romantic comedy follows the courtship of two weird, intense and wonderful kids in this beautiful film with great performances by Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward as well as an a-list supporting cast.
  • Silver Linings Playbook.  Director David O. Russell directed one of the most talked about films of the year, starring Bradley Cooper, Robert DeNiro and Jennifer Lawrence about the return home of a former teacher who has been institutionalized following a mental breakdown.  — WINNER!!
