The Bonfire Brings the Heat to Moontower Comedy Festival

If you’re looking to laugh until your face hurts, The Bonfire with Big Jay Oakerson and Dan Soder is the show for you. Big Jay Oakerson and Dan Soder are two of the funniest working comics there are, but when you put them together and give them carte blanche to keep it weird, the shit they come up with kills me every single time and their performance at the Moontower Comedy Festival in Austin, Texas was no exception to this rule.

Big Jay and Dan came out wearing full cowboy gear and told the story of how our boy, Dan Soder, finally found a hat that properly fit his ginormous head and every loyal listener rejoiced. Next, they asked Jay’s longtime girlfriend and Bonfire producer, Christine Marie Evans what physical attribute she’s most attracted to in a person. She not only shared that she likes a nice butt but then went on to tell the story of Jay and his “wiggle butt.” Adorable! Big Jay Oakerson and Dan Soder’s comedic talents are undeniable but what truly endears this show to it’s fans is the honest approach they take in their broadcasts. These guys and their crew are not afraid to completely bare their souls and divulge even the most intimate details about their lives. Then, they announced that their beloved producer, Jacob Battat, was unable to make it out to the festival this year… But never fear, for when life gives these guys and their crew lemons, they turn them into comedy gold!

In Jacob’s absence, they decided to cast three of their friends to play stand-in Jacobs and randomly blurt out some of Battat’s most hilarious quotes and all three of them killed it! Josh Adam Meyers was the first “Jacob” of the show. Seeing him in the huge cowboy hat he borrowed from Soder and hearing him spout out Jacob’s drops in his deep, baritone voice was hilarious! The next comedian to take on the role of Jacob Battat was Ian Fidance. Ian nailed the part and was the most true to form, so when you listen to the audio of this episode on SiriusXM and hear the timing and tenor of Ian’s drops, you may be fooled to think Jacob was actually there! The final “Jacob” of the evening was played by Shane Gillis who came out in head to toe cowboy gear including a cowboy hat, bolo tie, big belt buckle and authentic cowboy boots and the crowd went wild! Much like everything else he does in his life, Shane took on the role of Jacob and did it his way. In truth, Shane was more like a mean sheriff than our sweet Jacob Battat, but that’s what made his appearance all the more hilarious and another reason to love this show!
