House Passes D.C Statehood Bill

The House approved a bill that would make Washington, D.C. the 51st state. If approved, it would be named Washington, Douglass Commonwealth after abolitionist Frederick Douglass. Chocolate City by P-Funk would become the state song.

Resolution Passed To Rename John Wayne Airport

Orange Country Democrats passed a resolution to rename John Wayne Airport because of the late actor’s openly racist and homophobic comments that he made in Playboy Magazine in 1971. The airport was renamed after Wayne’s death in 1979. The decision to rename the airport is now in the hand of The Orange County Board Of Supervisors. Officials declined to comment on a report that the airport will be renamed honoring Sam Peckinpah.
