Animated Films You May Want to Watch on Hallucinogens

If you need more explanation than the headline, this list isn’t for you. Everyone else….get what ever you need…buy rent or download these films, and enjoy. Preferably not all at once.
1. The Point.
Perfect beginning to the list since Harry Nilsson conceived the idea while tripping “I was on acid and I looked at the trees and I realized that they all came to points, and the little branches came to points, and the houses came to point. I thought, ‘Oh! Everything has a point, and if it doesn’t, then there’s a point to it.'” Beautiful soundtrack and a perfect little fable. A great favorite of hippies and their kids.

2. Fantasia
A real midnight movie favorite in the 1960s and Walt Disney must have been surprised that college students were showing up glassy eyed to see an old animated film. Great for two reasons. It’s a beautiful marriage between music and animation and the organic nature of hand drawn and hand painted animation.

3. Speed Racer
Critics hated this film but it is flat ass bizarre. Quite frankly this is for people who enjoy adrenaline instead of a thoughtful experience. If you enjoy tripping at an amusement park , this is for you.

4. Waking Life
This one may be best enjoyed by philosophy students and should be kept away from weaker head people who cry out mid trip “how do we know we are not already dead!?” . Should be enjoyable for veterans.

5. Yellow Submarine
Of Course Yellow Submarine has to be on the list. This was the Beatles during their Psychedelic era where an idea of a band doing a animated film made perfect sense to them Yellow Submarine is perfect double feature with The Point.

6. Spirited Away
This Japanese film is considered one of the greatest animated films of all time. A coming of age film that deals with both darkness and light. Seeing this one under the right circumstances may open you up to even more Japanese Myth and fables.

7. Fantastic Planet
This is from a time when people talked about being ” Trippy” without being ironic. And Fantastic Planet is TRIPPY . It’s a French/Czech Animated Sci Fi in what may be a genre of One. In French it’s “La Planete Sauvage”. And if you can, see it in it’s original language and just focus on the visuals.
