Swipe Comedians and They Get Paid With New Laugh Exchange App

The Laugh Exchange App has officially launched. If you are so inclined you can download the app, watch a group of comedians perform and swipe up or down to rank them from funniest to least funny.

The new app is part TV show, part game show, part reality competition TV series all delivered in an app that is designed to deliver laughs. Former Comedy Central GM David Bernath is the app’s proud parent. Variety says the app will offer a new episode three times a week and feature short comedy routines based on the episode’s topic. New episodes drop every Monday Wednesday and Friday at 8pm. Users have five hours to swipe up or down to indicate how funny you think the comic is, and in case you have any tie scores, you get to clarify your rankings at the end.

We swiped around Episode One, titled “Love Bites” in which six comedians with varying styles of comedy perform. There were a few stand ups performing on New York stages, and a few more sketch-based performances. Brooklyn based comedian Emily Winter won round one thanks to the swiping styles of whoever was watching today. Pedro Gonzalez, Kerri Louisie, Anna Roisman, Usama Siddiquee, Tracy Soren and Chris Calogero were also featured. Emily won $150, Pedro won $100 and Kerri won $75, everyone in the show makes an appearance fee. The app promises a new episode will debut in another 36 hours.

At first glance it seems more likely to appeal to a Buzzfeed style audience than a comedy club crowd, but we’ll be checking in to see where this is headed. Submissions welcome, hit up the FAQs for details at laughexchange.app.
