Dan Aykroyd’s Harley Makes it to the National Comedy Center With a Little Help From Chuck Schumer

This week the National Comedy Center received its newest artifact to join their collection– a historic Harley Davidson motorcycle. Original castmember Dan Aykroyd rode the Harley between New York City and Canada during his early SNL days, and rode the bike to work and back. from 1975 to 1979.

Senator Charles Schumer, who has been a champion for the new center, tweeted about helping the bike clear customs. Earlier this week he announced that the Harley had arrived safely. “Last week I was asked to help on a mission from God to make sure @dan–aykroyd’s historic @harleydavidson from the early days of @nbcsnl could clear customs and arrive at its new home, the @NtlComedyCenter in Jamestown! It arrived safely in time for their opening in two weeks!” Schumer tweeted.

In addition to helping the bike through its border crossing, Schumer has helped the center to raise money and visibility.

The National Comedy Center officially opens to the public on August 1st, as part of the annual Lucy Festival that takes place in Jamestown, New York. The center is not a Hard Rock Cafe for comedy– artifacts are only a small part of what the center will offer, but there will be a few physical artifacts in the center including the Harley, a piece of the Laugh In Wall, Archie Bunker’s jacket, Lenny Bruce’s iconic trench coat and typewriter, and various items from the George Carlin archives that were on display last summer.
