Dave Chappelle Getting Sued by Banana Thrower
Back in 2015, Christian Englander threw a banana peel at Dave Chappelle on stage during a show at a Santa Fe, New Mexico theater. The peel hit Chappelle in the leg. This weekend he filed a lawsuit against Chappelle and his bodyguard, claiming the bodyguard struck him during the altercation that ensued. The initial police report mentioned that Englander had eaten a banana while waiting in line for the show and held on to the peel during the show.
Englander said he threw the banana peel because something the comedian said to his friend during the show upset him, and claims the move was not race motivated. Charges were brought against him at the time, but Chappelle didn’t respond to prosecutors about pursuing the case, so the charges were ultimately dropped.
According to the complaint, Plaintiff was struck twice in the face, “without provocation, under the clear direction of Defendant Chappelle.”
