Who is Hosting Saturday Night Live Tonight: April 15, 2017

Is SNL Live Tonight!? Who is Hosting SNL Tonight!?

Yes, Saturday Night Live is live tonight, with a pretty exciting host for long term SNL fans.  Favorite son Jimmy Fallon is back at the helm of the show tonight, hosting for the third time. Fallon was a full time cast member from 1998 to 2004 and has made both hosting and cameo appearances since then. Fallon’s last time hosting was in December, 2013 shortly before taking over at the Tonight Show. Jimmy’s most recent SNL appearance was a bit of a bust- he appeared in October on Weekend Update with fellow alum Tina Fey in an attempt to play a Philly guy, but he got ripped for his bad attempt at a Philly accent.

Fallon was a gigantic SNL success story, with a number of memorable characters (Nick Burns Computer Guy, DJ Joey Mack, Boston Teen, among others) and a slew of impressions, but was most known for breaking character on stage, and for his massive post-SNL career, helming Late Night and later The Tonight Show.

Fallon was spotted taping a digital short for the show earlier this week- at the basketball courts near West 4th street and Sixth Avenue in the Village along with Pete Davidson and Kenan Thompson. (Via Just Jared)

NBC has released a few promos for tonight’s live show including a best of reel featuring some of Jimmy’s best impressions and characters, which you can watch below. The second promo breaks format from the traditional “host, musical guest, cast member” standing on stage, and shows Fallon and musical guest Harry Styles getting a little goofy, putting to bed the question “Is Fallon too old to be the silly guy on SNL?” if anyone had that question.  The short clip also promotes a major first in SNL history- tonight the show goes live coast-to-coast. During the series’ entire 42 year history, SNL has actually only been live for the East Coast, with other time zones watching the show on delay after the nightly 11pm news.  It will be interesting to see if the new format changes content in any way with the series airing in Primetime for Western viewers.  It’s no surprise that NBC decided to wait for Fallon to host to make the move rather than start last week with Louis C.K. hosting.

SNL airs at 11:30pm tonight, LIVE, everywhere!
