Comedy Central Cancels Larry Wilmore’s Nightly Show

The Hollywood Reporter just announced that Larry Wilmore’s nightly show has been cancelled and will end its run on Thursday. The series replaced the popular Colbert Report when Stephen Colbert stepped down to move to CBS. Although critics were fans of the nightly series, the show struggled to get media attention and connect with viewers.
Perhaps more surprising, Comedy Central is letting the Nightly Show go without a replacement, for the time being. The plan is to run Chris Hardwick’s popular stand up comic game show, @midnight, at 11:30pm until a replacement show is found. Comedy Central president Kent Alterman told THR he was cancelling the shows because “it hasn’t connected with our audience in ways that we need it to.”
In a statement Wilmore told THR, “I’m also saddened and surprised we won’t be covering this crazy election or ‘The Unblackening’ as we’ve coined it,” adding, “I guess I hadn’t counted on ‘The Unblackening’ happening to my time slot as well.”
