Ricky Gervais Returning To Stand Up After Six Years

It’s been six years since Ricky Gervais has performed stand up, but Monday night on The Tonight Show, Gervais told Fallon he’s back. “Yeah I’m just doing a couple of warm ups in a months time, I just announced it this week,” he said. Although Gervais said there are some similarities between stand up and hosting the Golden Globes, he’s not counting that as stand up.

Ricky said he doesn’t sit down and write stand up material; his ideas come to him when he’s relaxing, like when he’s on a plane, watching tv, or out running. Running? Yes, running. It’s not a problem though, Gervais likes the adrenaline of not always knowing what he’s going to say.

Don’t run out to get tickets just yet, the gigs aren’t in America. If you want to be there for Gervais’ first return to the stage you’ll have to book a plane ticket and get some inside info too. In early April, Gervais told the BBC that he had booked some clubs in London during the month of May, but he’s not announced the location or the dates. “I’ve booked a couple of secret try out gigs to see if I still like it and I’m going to go along and just chat for an hour or so.”

We’re predicting he’ll love it, and be announcing a huge tour before June 1st.

Watch the clip from Monday night’s Tonight show, and pay attention in the middle of the clip to see Gervais completely lose the audience by taking a shot at Fallon. You can also scroll down below to watch Gervais’s 2008 stand up special.

Gervais is out promoting his new Netflix project, Special Correspondents which goes live on the platform this Friday, April 29.
