A Tribute to the 2016 Oscars In Memoriam Tribute

Every year at Joe’s Pub in NYC, friends and fans gather to celebrate Oscar weekend with the live event “You Like Me” at Joe’s Pub. Some of downtown New York City’s funniest performers gather to reinterpret classic speeches from award-show history, from Meryl Streep to Mariah Carey in a send-up of self-congratulation. Created by Michael Schulman & Rachel Shukert, performers like John “Lypsinka” Epperson, Cole Escola, Michael Musto and more were a part of this year’s tribute to Oscars past present and future. This year’s show was completely sold out and received twitter accolades from New York Times theater reporter Michael Paulson.

Part of the event includes the teams own tribute to the Oscar In Memorium Tribute. This year’s “You Like Me” Tribute said farewell to many people places and things we thought would last forever. For those who couldn’t or wouldn’t make it to this year’s event, we got our hands on this year’s In Memorium Video along with the host introduction that was read during the show.

HOST: Ladies and gentlemen, you may notice that I am making a sad face right now instead of my previous happy, jokey face. That is because we have reached that point in the evening where we pay homage to those we’ve lost in the year gone by. Only this year, in a desperate bid for ratings, we have decided to shake things up. You see, usually this montage is sort of a pee break for people at home. Sadly, America just does not care that a Polish cinematographer who shot one brilliant film in 1973 has passed away, because they are philistines. So today, we honor not actual Academy members who have died, but instead say farewell to cherished brands that are no more, or obscure characters from musicals who probably wouldn’t have survived long after Act II. In some cases, reputations have died. Or worse, careers.
Join us, please, in silence, until the commercial break. Then you can pee.
