Big Jay Oakerson’s Taping His First Hour Special! Get Tickets!
One of our favorite breaking comedians– Big Jay Oakerson– is having a monster year. His two podcasts– Legion of Skanks and the SDR Show– both have huge followings, and he co-hosts SiriusXM’s The Bonfire with Dan Soder. In the last few years he’s recorded two albums, headlined festivals all over the country and he’s been featured on This Is Not Happening with Ari Shaffir, Comedy Underground with Dave Attell, FX’s Louie, Inside Amy Schumer, and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. But on February 21st, he takes it all to the next level when Big Jay Oakerson tapes his first hour special for Comedy Central in New York City! There are two tapings at Webster Hall, at 7:30 and 9:30 and you can get tickets to them.
It’s no secret we’re all big fans, and we can’t wait to see the taping. Jay’s more than ready to record his first special this year- an honor that is long overdue. Jay told us that doing his first hour special this year is literally a dream come true for him. “It was the only goal I had when I started doing comedy 19 years ago,” he said. “I grew up with my grandfather showing me lots of comedy specials- everything from Buddy Hackett to Eddie Murphy and I just fell in love with the presentation of funny. I mimicked those comedy specials all through my school years and when I found out there was an opportunity to actually do that- I put all my focus and efforts into becoming a comedian with the ultimate goal being my own special.”
Jay said it’s the perfect time for him to do the special, even though he’s been ready for a few years now. Every year that he didn’t get chosen to do a special gave him another year of stage comfort, ability, and life experience to draw from.”It seems like whenever I got it would have been the perfect time, so the perfect time is now,” he told us. He’s particularly thrilled to be doing the special with Comedy Central. Here’s why:
“For one, they’ve really made me feel like part of the family over the last few years and have put immense amount of promotion into my radio show The Bonfire w/ Dan Soder on Comedy Central SiriusXM,” he said. “They make sure when they take you on they get the word out. On a basic level it’s going to be great to see those commercials running on the network when the special airs.”
Oakerson says Webster Hall is the perfect place for him to tape his special “It’s such an iconic venue,” he said, “and I love that it’s a rock hall.”
