Watch Ricky Gervais’ Golden Globes Monologue


Ever since it was announced that Ricky Gervais would host the Golden Globes for the fourth time, there has been a big fuss made about the big shots he’d be taking at Hollywood in his opening monologue. After overhyping Gervais’ role as the man who would take down Hollywood, the media has already started releasing their reviews and so far the consensus seems to be that Gervais’ shots were too cheap, and too politically incorrect. Caitlyn Jenner jokes are still off-limits. Variety called Gervais’ jokes “tired”, “hacky”, and full of “cheap shots” and said his jokes weren’t sharp enough to explain his demeanor of “smug satisfaction.” Deadline made reference to Gervais’ takedown of Jennifer Lawrence’s campaign for equal pay for women. Fox News called his jokes “crass”, ABC said And our Twitter feed wasn’t letting Gervais off easy either.
