Cosby Countersues

Hard to believe Bill Cosby could find a way to look even worse in the media, but today’s announcement is definitely leaving a few jaws on the floor. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Bill Cosby filed counterclaims on Monday against the alleged victims on Monday who had filed defamation lawsuits against him.
The plaintiffs were suing Cosby on the theory that by denying their allegations of abuse, his statements were defamatory and the women suffered damages.
Cosby denies he sexually assaulted the women suing him, denies he defamed them, and counterclaims that through their false allegations, the women damaged his legacy and reputation. “Falsely accusing another of sexual assault is morally repugnant,” the complaint says, “and subjected Mr. Cosby to severe emotional distress from public ridicule, shame, and contempt of such a nature that no reasonable person could be expected to endure it. Through his complaint, Cosby says that the lawsuit is nothing more than an opportunistic attempt to “extract financial gain” from him, and says their false claims interfered with his earnings by inducing NBC and Netflix to postpone and/or cancel their contracts with Cosby.
He does not specify damages.
