Phil Hartman Biopic In the Works

A Phil Hartman biopic titled “Nice Guy Phil” is in the works, according to Variety.com and Jason Priestley has signed on to direct. Daran Norris is set to star as Hartman in the film which is being produced by Tyler Levine’s Carousel Pictures out of Toronto. Hartman’s estate is cooperating with the film which will cover Hartman’s comedy career as well as the troubling details of his personal life and relationships.

Hartman of course spent eight seasons performing as one of Saturday Night Live’s most beloved castmembers, with a slew of recurring characters. He went on to star in the popular and critically acclaimed comedy series News Radio. He also voiced Simpsons characters Troy McClure and Lionel Hutz.  Before SNL Hartman was a member of The Groundlings and helped Paul Reubens to develop the Pee Wee Herman character, even co-writing Pee Wee’s Big Adventure.

Priestley, who was perhaps best known as the star of 90210 recently finished his feature directorial debut with “Cas and Dylan.”

Variety also reported that Norris, who is known for his voicework had campaigned actively for the part.
