Grantland Is Dead
Five months after Bill Simmons was essentially fired by ESPN, the sports-meets-popular-culture vertical site that he founded was unceremoniously shuttered on Friday. The site’s remaining staff were informed of the closing in a conference call, which was held about eight minutes before ESPN tweeted their press release Friday afternoon. The network commemorated the occasion by having First Take’s Stephen A. Smith host SportsCenter.
That’s not a joke. That actually happened.
