Fargo Tells John Oliver to Be Nicer

This week, on Last Week Tonight, John Oliver told the citizens of North Dakota to be angry about dirty business in the oil industry. He also mocked a series of North Dakota billboards from a few years back that had told passerbys to be kind, and be polite. Oliver said his response to a billboard asking him to be polite would be “fuck you, don’t tell me what to do.”

Now North Dakota has a message for Oliver. “Hey John Oliver, don’t be angry. Be ‘North Dakota’ nice (it really works).” The ad includes a giant photo of Oliver.

“Hey, this is what really works in North Dakota, we play nice, we are nice, we’re great people,” said Sales Manager Paul Hilt, in a statement. “Might not work for you in New York where everybody’s an a—–e — and I use to live there for four years — or whatever that might be. At the end of the day, we are a great state and we shouldn’t have to be slapped in the face.”
