Friends of the People Star Jermaine Fowler Has New Showtime Special and CBS Series In Works

TruTV’s hit sketch series Friends of the People is becoming a launchpad for big big things. One of the stars of FOTP, Lil Rel Howery has already in Hollywood with a great role in Jerrod Carmichael‘s The Carmichael Show.
Now CBS has announced that they’re developing a semi-autobiographical multi camera series for Jermaine Fowler, and he’s already shot a one hour special for Showtime that will air later this year, tentatively dated for a December 11 debut. The working title is Jermaine Fowler: Give ‘Em Hell Kid, and will showcase Fowler’s stand-up and also include first-person interviews from “those who know him best” according to Deadline.
Fowler had previously developed a pilot for ABC co-starring Whoopi Goldberg and Roy Wood Jr. (who has since moved on to become the newest correspondent for The Daily Show). Dolores and Jermaine didn’t get picked up by ABC but we heard great things and we had no doubt that Fowler would find the right project and the right home. We talked with Fowler back in May about the ABC pilot. He seemed confident that he’d get another chance at a network series, sayings “after the pilot didn’t get picked up, I was like ‘oh its fine don’t worry about it.’ It was funny, the script was great, I’ll be fine. it was a funny pilot thats all I cared about and I was really happy I did it.” We’re looking forward to seeing what the rising young star develops with CBS.
Outside of FOTP, Fowlers other co-stars, Keith Lucas and Kenny Lucas have multiple projects in development including the already popular animated Lucas Bros Moving Co., and Kevin Barnett, Jennifer Bartels, and Josh Rabinowitz are madly talented performers and writers, and we definitely expect to see more from them down the line.
