Carol Burnett Can Still Kill an Audience With Her Tarzan Yell

Once upon a time a brilliantly funny comedian named Carol Burnett used to start off her show taping but taking questions from the studio audience. Now Stephen Colbert does it, although he normally does it off camera before the show begins.

Last night when Colbert did his Q&A he fielded a question from Carol herself who got a huge standing ovation after asking “I’d like to know why you’re doing this bit?” She continued saying, “I just wanted to know where you get off doing this bit because its my bit.” Stephen told her that she couldn’t possibly own the act of answering questions, but then Carol produced a patent and before things could get ugly Colbert invited Burnett up on the stage to finish answering questions.

Carol fielded three questions- one asking about her old apartment, a second one about whether she was nervous to do Howard Stern’s show (she said at first, but then once they got going he was the nervous one) and finally, the last question asked her if she would mind doing her famous Tarzan yell. She did, and the audience went crazy. At the age of 82, Carol Burnett let out her signature Tarzan yell and it sounded as great as ever.

Hopefully after the show Stephen put on a dress and grabbed a mop.
