No Levy or O’Hara in Upcoming Christopher Guest Film, But Other Familiar Faces on Board

Earlier this month Netflix released the news that Christopher Guest would be releasing his next film as a Netflix original. We knew the title, Mascots, and were told the film would be about “all the drama, intrigue, and occasional excitement of The 8th World Mascot Association Championships” where a group of “unusual” men and women with big heads and furry suits compete to win the prestigious gold fluffy award and be crowned best mascot in the world, but no further information was released.
Today The Hollywood Reporter brings news about which of the Christopher Guestiverse is on board for the new film. Jane Lynch, Bob Balaban, Jennifer Coolidge are in or at least very close to signing. Sources told THR that Chris O’Dowd, Parker Posey, and John Michael Higgins, are also in talks. Reportedly Eugene Levy and Catherine O’Hara will not be joining the ensemble, most likely because they’re busy filming Schitt’s Creek, their series that airs on the Pop TV network starring Levy, O’Hara and Eugene Levy’s son, Daniel. No news yet on Michael McKean, Fred Willard, Harry Shearer, or Ed Begley Jr. and Larry Miller who have been a part of many of the Guest ensemble films.
Guest wrote, directed and starred in a series of mockumentary style films Waiting for Guffman, Best In Show, A Mighty Wind, and For Your Consideration. Balaban and Posey have appeared in all four films (but were not a part of the Guest penned This is Spinal Tap, which many consider to be the first of the series), Coolidge and Lynch have been a part of three of the films. O’Dowd starred in the short lived Guest helmed HBO series Family Tree.
Mascots starts shooting in November.
