Michael Shur Comedy Project Goes Straight to Series

NBC has given a 13-episode series commitment order to an untitled comedy straight off the pitch from “Parks and Recreation” and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” executive producer Michael Schur.

Schur pitched the entire first season for NBC execs, and they loved it so much they ordered it straight to production, which should be no surprise considering his track record. Only one detail about the new series is being shared– it will have a female in the lead who will be a “strong and particularly complicated female character.” Schur requested that the remaining details remain under wraps while the show is in the process of cast selection.

“For seven seasons, Mike Schur brought us the wonderful citizens of Pawnee, and we can’t wait to see the new group of indelible characters that he’ll now introduce,” said Jennifer Salke, President, NBC Entertainment. “[It’s] a comedy like nothing seen before,” Salke promises, “about a woman wrestling with what it means to be good. We’re very excited about this show!”

NBC Orders Tina Fey and Robert Carlock Pilot

Tina Fey and Robert Carlock are also working on a new comedy for NBC. They have an order for a pilot for an untitled comedy written by Emmy winner Tracey Wigfield. The project will follow a mother-daughter relationship that runs in to trouble when mom gets an internship at a cable news network where her daughter works.

“Tina and Robert are two of the pre-eminent voices in comedy, and we couldn’t be more thrilled that they’re bringing their next project to NBC,” said Salke. “We also adore Tracey, who has written some brilliant episodes of both ‘30 Rock’ and ‘The Mindy Project.’ With this super-talented trio at the helm, we’re eagerly looking forward to their next great show.”

Fey and Carlock were writers and producers on “30 Rock” and they’re also the minds behind the hit Netflix series “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” was nominated for seven Emmys, including outstanding comedy series, in its first year of eligibility.
