Saturday Night Live star Jay Pharoah recently announced plans for his first one-hour stand-up special. Jay Pharoah: Can I Be Me? will premiere on Saturday, August 1 at 10pm EST on Showtime. Pharoah filmed the special at The Cutting Room in New York City. The gifted impressionist, who burst onto the scene with his uncanny imitations of Denzel Washington and Will Smith among others, teased Esquire that his first filmed hour of comedy is “not a traditional special at all.”

“I’m planning something revolutionary,” Pharoah said. “As far as the content goes, it’s a comedic jambalaya; stories, impressions, one liners, my strange observations, clowns, little people.”

He added, “Okay, maybe not clowns and little people, but that would definitely be something to see! Anything can happen.”

Pharoah recently finished his fifth season as a cast member on Saturday Night Live, where he also has a huge role impersonating President Obama. Pharoah will be returning for the show’s 41st season.

An album version of Jay Pharoah: Can I Be Me? will also be released on August 7.
